On the trail of the ancient Via Postumia in Verona

31 March 2023
A few days ago we made a little journey to discover the remains of the ancient Via Postumia still visible in the city of Verona as well as some places relevant to medieval merchants such as the “Corte Sgarzerie”, an area next to Piazza delle Erbe, which was deeply linked to the processing and trade of wool. The Via Postumia is a Roman consular road built (or completed) in 148 BC by the Roman consul Postumius Albinus in the territories of Cisalpine Gaul, today’s Po Valley, for mainly military purposes. It connected the cities (and ports) of Genoa, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, and Aquileia, on the Adriatic Sea. Special thanks to our extraordinary guide Maria Rita Bertoncini of the association Le Archeonaute.
