Congratulations to our Francesca Fusco for this important publication for the prestigious series Quaderni degli “Studi di lessicografia italiana” (Accademia della Crusca)!
The Dictionary of Historical and Administrative Italian Language (Florence, 1881) by Giulio Rezasco (La Spezia, 1813 – Bogliasco, 1894) remains to this day the only existing dictionary of legal-administrative language in Italy.
After a presentation by the author and a reconstruction of the genesis of the work, the dictionary is analyzed from a linguistic and lexicographical point of view, starting with the structure of the entries and ending with the sources used by Rezasco. Finally, the author examines new 19th-century legal-bureaucratic terminology, with a particular attention to neologisms and semantic changes.
